Born on 30 Jan 1897 in Ipswich, Suffolk son of Alfred and Julia Ellen Spalding of 20 Alpe Street, Ipswich.


Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1909-13 and then joined the London City and Midland Bank at Ipswich.

Wartime Service

Enlisted on 30 Mar 1916 in Ipswich and was killed in action on the Somme. He was buried near Pozieres but his grave was subsequently lost.
