Pre War

Born in 1887 in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire son of William Dowton and Jane (Spicer) Dowton living in Bull Plain, Hertford in 1901 and in 2 Spencer Street, Hertford in 1911 working as a coal dealer’s carman.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hertford and was killed in action on the eve of the Third Battle of Ypres in the region of Zillbeke.
