Royal Masonic School Memorial, Rickmansworth

Pre War

Born on 10 Jun 1868 in Suffolk and baptised on 31 Aug 1873 in Hayes, Kent son of Robert Samuel and Louisa Chandler. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1879-84 he lived in America, Hong Kong and finally settled in South Africa where he married Johanna Mathilda Behr and had five children.

Wartime Service

Served in the Durban Light Infantry in South Africa 1899-1901, was present at Spion Kop and the relief of Ladysmith when he was wounded and invalided out. He volunteered again in Jul 1917 for a Regiment in East Africa but contracted malaria and died in Nairobi.
