Charles Henry Cook was born in 1874 in Kingston, Surrey to Henry Cook, cowkeeper, and Mary Harriet Babbage (nee Field).
On the 1891 Census the family of parents, Ida M (born 1870), Kate (born 1871, mantle maker), and Charles were living at Wood Street, Kingston, Surrey.
He enlisted in the East Surrey Regiment as Private 6161 on 17 Jan 1900 served in South Africa and was discharged on15 Jun 1901 (termination of 1 year engagement).
Charles married Rose Alice Timms on 3 Feb 1906 in Kingston, Surrey. There would be 2 Children – Agnes Eleanor (born 1912) and Irene L S (born 1915). They lived at 17, Common View Square, Letchworth, Herts.
Charles worked as a joiner for First Garden City Ltd.
Wartime Service
No Service Record was found for Charles who was enlisted in the Royal Engineers, Private 522942 on 15 Jan 1915 and was posted to (2/1st Dundee) Fortress Company which joined 71st Division (TF ) on 27 Nov 1916 and redesignated as 548th Field Company. 71 Division performed as a Home Defence force in East of England. 548th Field Company left on 30 Mar 1918 for service in North Russia, arriving on 12 Nov 1918.
He was taken ill and spent 3 Months in hospital, dying of Tuberculosis/ Pneumonia on 1 Mar 1919 at hospital in Murmansk, North Russia.

War Gratuity of £24 and arrears of £19 12s 4d was paid to his widow.
