Pre War

Born in 1884 in Furneux Pelham and baptised on 28 Apr 1884 in Furneux Pelham son of Lois Spicer.


He was a labourer and living in 38 Thornton Street, Hertford.

Wartime Service

Killed by a Zeppelin raid. Oberleutnant-zur-See W. Peterson, in the then new German Zeppelin L16, bombed Hertford at 2200 on 13 Oct 1915 after mistaking the River Lea for the Thames. He thought that he was attacking East London when he dropped 48 incendiary and explosive bombs.


The bombs from L16 killed 9 people and injured 15.
