Born on 6 May 1893 in York, Ontario son of William Henry and Elizabeth Sara Van der Smissen of 15 Surrey Place, Toronto. Educated at Haileybury College 1909-10.

Wartime Service

Enlisted on 22 Sep 1914 in Toronto. The Regiment embarked for England on 26 Aug 1915 and entered France on 1 Nov 1915. They were fighting at the battle of Mount Sorrel in the Ypres salient in Jun 1916 when he was killed in action.
