Pre War

Born in 1860 in Southampton, he married Christine Laura Baker in 1883 and lived in Perry Green, Much Hadham in 1911. He was an insurance agent. Having previously served 19 years in the Territorial Force with the 2nd Hampshires, 1st East Kent, 2nd Essex and the Hertfordshires, he re-enlisted on 30 Mar 1915 at Hertford (aged 55).

Wartime Service

He initially joined as Private 24786 Hertfordshire Regiment and transferred to the R.D.C on 29 Apr 1916 and served at home. He was discharged as unfit on 31 Oct 1917 and died of carcinoma of the larynx at 49 Amwell Street, Hoddesdon.

Father of Corporal Frank Arthur Dewey who died on 7 Mar 1918 and of Private Charles William Dewey who died on 23 Feb 1917 and who are also commemorated on these memorials.
