Pre War

Born in 1887 in the Cherry Tree public house, Amwell End, Ware, Hertfordshire son of Herbert Samuel and Susan (Nicoll) Hammond. He married Sarah Ansell in 1908 in Hertford and they lived at 19 Church Street, Hertford and later at 8B Dolphin Yard, Maidenhead Street, Hertford and had two children. He was a marine stores labourer.

Wartime Service

Enlisted at Hertford and was killed in action at the Battle of the Ancre.

Additional Information

Brother of Sergeant Hiram John Hammond who was killed in action on 31 Jul 1917 and is also commemorated on these memorials.
