Pre War

Son of John and Fanny Doughty, of Rose Cottage, Arkley, Barnet, Herts. 1901 Census shows him living at 1 South Cottage, Arkley with his parents.

He is recorded as living in Barnet when he enlisted in Hornsey, but this may more accurately be Arkley, Barnet.

Wartime Service

Formerly 3250, 7th Middlesex Regiment.

Whilst his date of death is given as 6 Sep 1916 this would appear to be a retrospective entry as a letter from the British Red Cross dated 10 Sep 1916 discuss the fact that he was missing following an action covering the 6 - 10 Sep 1916 after which he was not accounted for at roll call. The army posted him as Killed in Action.

Additional Information

Brother of Reginald (Reggie) Doughty who fell at Mesopotamia (Iraq). The photograph shows the two Doughty brothers, it seems most likely that Horace is standing. Back pay and gratuities £10 19s 10d paid to father.
