Born on 13 Jun 1878 in the Castle, Cape Town, South Africa son of Maj. F. Chenevix (Connaught Rangers) and Rosalind Baldwin of Lancefield, Camberley, Surrey. Educated at Haileybury College 1892-3 and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst.

Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 20 Jul 1898, attached to the Middlesex Regiment and then the 27th Madras Infantry. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 20 Oct 1900 and transferred to the 58th Vaughan’s Rifles. Made Captain on 20 Jul 1904. Served on the NW Frontier, Waziristan 1901-2 and against the Darwesh Khel Waziris in 1902.

Wartime Service

He was at home on leave when WW1 broke out and was appointed Company Commander in the Rifle Brigade. He the rejoined his own Regiment on 7 Nov 1914, Mentioned in despatches (London Gazette 17 Feb 1915) and was killed near Festubert while leading a charge on the German trenches.
