Pre War

Son of John and Annie Cruddas, of Scotswood, Arkley, Herts. born 2nd February 1868 in India.


In the 1881 Census he living at 44 Mansfield Street, Westgate, Newcastle Upon Tyne, with grandparents and siblings.


He married Alice Cruddas, nee Medhurst in India and was a serving officer before WW1.


He was Gazetted Lieutenant, Royal Irish Regiment in 1889. and the to Captain, Indian Army in 1900.

Wartime Service

Lieutenant Colonel in the British Army, 41st Dogras Indian Army, attached 4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, Awarded a D.S.O. in 1915 for actions at Neuve Chapelle.


He was shot while directing the securing of a German mine crater between the lines; died in the Suffolk trenches shortly afterwards.


In addition of the War medals and the DSO he also had the China War Medal (Silver) (Boxer Rebellion)
