Born on 18 Oct 1878 in Wollaton Rectory, Nottinghamshire son of the Rev. Henry Charles and Leila Louisa Millicent (Willoughby) Russell. Educated at Haileybury College 1893-97. He married Mary Katherine Clements on 8 Jun 1916 in Newark.

Wartime Service

Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant Indian Army on 20 May 1899 and was promoted Captain on 20 May 1908. Commanded 6th Bn. Cameron Highlanders from 5 Mar 1916 until he was killed in action near Ypres.
