Pre War

James was born in Croxley Green in the second half of 1885 and so he would have been about 32 when he died. His parents, Henry and Maria, lived at Copthorne Cottages on the Green. In 1911, Henry was a widower with 9 surviving children. James was still living at home and working as a paper mill labourer. However, he is not listed on the Dickinson memorial.

Enlisted at Croxley Green.

Wartime Service

Formerly 98233 R. A. M. C. Later, 1st Battalion Herefordshire Regiment, 34th Division, died on 23 July and is remembered at Villemontoire cemetery, south of Soissons. The cemetery is connected with the victorious advance of the 15th (Scottish) and 34th Divisions from 23 July to 2 August. James was the older brother of John Revell who died the month before.

Brother of Lance Corporal John Josiah Revell who was killed in action on 19 Jun 1918 and who is also commemorated on this memorial.
