Born on 22 Jun 1873 in Dharmsala, India eldest son of Richard Isaac and Lilla (Webb) Bruce. Educated at Haileybury College 1887-1889 and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 16 Jan 1895 and Lieutenant on 16 Apr 1897. Promoted to Captain on 16 Jan 1904 and Major on 16 Jan 1913. He served on the N W Frontier in 1897–98. He married Mabel Waldron Trengronse of "Kenilworth," Seymour Road, Hampton Wick, Kingston-on-Thames on 14 Sep 1905 and had two daughters.

Wartime Service

He entered France with the British Expeditionary Force and was killed in action at Festubert.
