Born in 1879 in Harefield, Middlesex and baptised on 29 Jun 1879 in St Mary the Virgin, Harefield son of Joseph and Eliza Copland. Father was one-time publican at the Waggon and Horses, Castle Street, Hertford. He married Priscilla Holmes in 1903 in Watford and they lived in Gillingham, Kent.

Wartime Service

Died when the H.M.S. Formidable was torpedoed by U-boat U24 while on exercise off the Devon coast. She was the first British battleship to be sunk in WW1.
