Born on 28 Nov 1895 in Rawalpindi, Punjab, India son of Lt. Col. Redmond Conyngham Samuel and Mrs. Jane Isabella (Keown) Macausland, of Woodbank, Garvagh, Co. Derry, Ireland. Educated at Haileybury College 1909-12 and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst (Prize Cadet). He was unmarried.

Wartime Service

Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant to the unattached list, Indian Army on 8 Aug 1914 and the same month joined 4th Bn. Royal Irish Rifles at Hollywood, Co. Down. Posted as Lieutenant to 1st Bn. R.I.R. in France in Mar 1915 and was killed in action while leading his platoon in the charge at Fromelles.
