Pre War

Born on 31 July 1867 in Hampstead. London son of Col. John Campbell and Mary Anne (Boyson) Gunning. Educated at Haileybury College 1881-84. Gazetted 2nd Lieutenant on 22 Aug 1888 and promoted to Major on 22 Aug 1906. He fought in the Miranzai Expedition in 1891, in the Dongola Expedition and in the Malakand Expedition between 1897 and 1898 where he was mentioned in despatches twice and was severely wounded and awarded the DSO. He married Margaret Cecilia Dawkins on 1 Nov 1902 in Chelsea, London and lived at Little Horton House, Houghton, Northampton and had three children.

Wartime Service

He was mentioned in dispatches during WW1 and was invalided from Mesopotamia & died in Wynberg Hospital, South Africa from illness contracted on active service.
