Born on 22 Aug 1897 in 6 St Eligius Street, Cambridge son of Hugh McLeod and Margaret (Bird) Innes, grandson of Lt. Gen. James John McLeod Innes V.C. R.E. Educated at Haileybury College 1911-16, Head of School, and elected to a History Scholarship at Trinity College, Cambridge.
