Eustace was born in Harpenden in 1879 to John and Sarah Knights. His birth registration was recorded as Knight.


On the 1881 Census His mother was lodging house keeper at 61, Oxford Terrace in Paddington, London, together with Brother John Edward and Sister Melina Clara. On the 1901 Census Eustace was living with his brother John Edward in Lewin Road, Bexley Kent and was working as a coffin polisher. On the 1911 Census he was living with his widowed mother at 163 West St, Erith. Kent and working as a coffin maker. Eustace (as Knight) married Jessie Margaret Jones in autumn 1911. There was 2 children – Leslie Gordon (1912) and Dorothy Melina (1913). They lived at 1 Upton Villas, Bexley Heath, Kent.

Wartime Service

Eustace was enlisted as Gunner 169994 in the Royal Field Artillery.


He was posted to 15th Division Artillery Column serving with 15th (Scottish) Division. The column was responsible for the supply of ammunition, both small arms and artillery, from Ammunition Parks (RASC) to near the front line. He was killed in action on 13 Jul 1917 in the Ypres sector.

Probate of £101 10s 1d and War Gratuity of £3 plus arrears of £3 10s paid to his widow.
