Frederick William Dedman was born on 3rd April 1881, in St Pancras, London/Middx, son of Frederick Dedman a Relief Stamper (B 1854 in St Pancras) and Elizabeth Hanna Dedman (nee Pearce) (B 1855 in Exeter, Devon). Frederick was Baptised on 26th June 1881, at Holy Trinity Church, Haverstock Hill, Camden, Middx. 


1891 Census records Frederick aged 10, living with his parents, sister Elizabeth 7 and brother Alfred 4, in Carlton Road, St Pancras, London/Middx.


1901 Census records Frederick aged 20, working as a Goods Porter, living with his parents, sisters Elizabeth 17, Minnie 7 and brother Alfred 14, at 40, St Pancras Square, St Pancras, London/Middx.


On 6th July 1903, Frederick married Gertrude Baker of Wigginton the daughter of Charles and Phoebe Baker.


1911 Census records Frederick married with three children Frederick Charles 5, Maud Helena 3 and Nora Kate 3, (twins) his occupation is given as a General Labourer and living in Church Row, Wigginton, Herts. They had one more child Lena Alice born in April 1914.  

Wartime Service

Aged 38, Frederick enlisted in Tring, Herts, in May 1915, posted to the Army Service Corps, with the Service No. R4/ 095441, he joined at the Remount Depot, Army Service Corps in Romsey, Hampshire. He was assigned to "D" Squadron. 


Frederick was taken ill while on active service and admitted to Hursley Park Camp Hospital on 24th December 1915, with appendicitis were he died on 30th December 1915. He is buried in Netley Military Cemetery, Hampshire. Grave Ref; C. E. 1771.


His widow Gertrude was awarded £1-5s-0d per week War Pension for her and the 4 children. 

Additional Information

The value of his effects were £2-7s-9d, Pay Owing and £3, War Gratuity which went to his widow Gertrude and the children. Frederick's wife Gertrude (nee Baker) was the sister of Private 32331 Walter Ernest Baker, Killed in Action on 3rd May 1917.
