Pre War

Born on 10 May 1886 and baptised on 19 Nov 1886 in Ootacamund, Madras, India son of Philip and Evelyn Georgiana McDowell Smith. Educated at the Royal Masonic School 1897-1903 he then worked for the Eastern Telegraph Company in Singapore.

Wartime Service

He had been working on a cable-laying ship and had returned to Singapore when he was shot with three others in an ambush by Singapore mutineers. He was buried with a military funeral in Singapore.
