Pre War

Percy Leslie Adams was born in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire in 1898, son of Arthur Adams and Maud Adams (nee Flack). One of four children, one died in infancy.


His father was employed by the Royal Gunpowder Factory (RGPF), at Waltham Abbey.


Percy was baptised in the Parish of Waltham Cross, Herts on 4 September 1898.


1901 Census records Percy aged 2, living with his Mother, at 7, Cross Road, Cheshunt, Herts. His father was not at home on the night of the Census. The family had two boarders living with them.  


1911 Census records Percy aged 12, at school, living with his parents, and two sister Daisy (9), and Ivy (6) at, 87, Eleanor Road, Waltham Cross, Herts. The family had two boarders living with them.

Wartime Service

It is believed Percy traveled to Bedford and enlisted on 2 March 1916 and then posted to the Army Reserve.


He was called up for service on 17 February 1917, and posted to the 28th Training Reserve Battalion, then posted to 245th Infantry Battalion on 2 March 1917. Transferred to the 10th Battalion, York & Lancaster Regiment on 30 September 1917, with the service number 33930. He was transferred to the 6th Battalion, on 6 February 1918. Seeing service on the Western Front.


He was Killed in Action on 1 October 1918. 

Additional Information

His mother Maud received a dependents pension of 5/- a week from 6 November 1918, and his effects of £18-15s-8d, Pay Owing and his War Gratuity of £9.
