*1 Currently we have insufficient information to positively identify this soldier. The St Albans Cathedral Diocese records give his name as E G Lawrence (occasionally Lawrance), suggests a connection to Hertford and that he was a Gunner in the Royal Regiment of Artillery (more likely Royal Field Artillery).
The only likely candidate found so far is Gunner 891608, Ernest George Lawrence in the Royal Horse Artillery And Royal Field Artillery, however we have yet to prove a connection to Hertford or Hertfordshire.
