Pre War

Currently insufficient information to positively identify this man. The St Albans Cathedral Diocese clarification. These records list two men: 'J Mead' and 'J R Mead' - as does the Hertford Town Memorial. For the former it also records that he was a Driver in the Royal Regiment of Artillery (Royal Field Artillery). We have attributed these facts to the James Richard Martin and this because several military records confirm this, it is of course quite possible that both men served in the RFA and there are a number of candidates for 'J Martin' but so far we have been unable to link any of them to Hertford.
