Currently insufficient information to positively identify this man. The St Albans Cathedral Diocese clarification: these records list two men, both 'E E Mitchell' - as does the Hertford Town Memorial, although one is just engraved as 'E Mitchell. One is a Private in the Somerset Light Infantry and he is Ernest Edgar Mitchell. The other (this man) is attributed to the Hertfordshire Regiment, who has not yet been found. There is some scope for confusion because Edgar originally served in the Hertfordshires, however as the sources mentioned above list two men, we are still looking for the second man.
Currently the only possibility seems to be Private 204846, Ernest Mitchell in the Somerset Light Infantry, however if this is correct then Edgar might then be commemorated under his original, Hertfordshire Regiment, but no connection to Hertford has yet been found for Ernest.
