Charles was born in Islington, London in 1885 to Ernest Krause, an Insurance Clerk, and Isabella (nee Hill).


On the 1911 Census Charles was Warehouseman and living together with many other employees at Milton Street London EC. He married Emily Helen Snoxell on 14 Oct 1915 and they had a daughter Catherine Marie.

Wartime Service

Charles attested on 11 Dec 1915 giving his occupation as Glove Warehouse Manager and address as the Mount, Station Road Harpenden, and was placed on Army Reserve until 19 Dec 1916 when he was mobilised as Gunner 142161 in the Royal Garrison Artillery.


On 24 Feb 1917 he transferred to 2 Reserve Battery RGA. On 7 Nov 1917 he was went to France with 248 Siege Battery RGA. He was killed in action on 28 May 1918. He is buried alongside 2 others from the Siege Battery killed the same day.

Additional Information

War Gratuity of £5 10s and arrears of £4 4s 4d together with probate of £450 7s 4d to his widow.
