Pre War

Sidney was born in Harpenden on 16 Oct 1898, the son of Alexander Seabrook, fruit gardener, and Emily (nee Webb). The family lived on Lower Cravells Road.

Wartime Service

Sidney enlisted on 6 Jun 1916 as Private CH/ 20668 in the Royal Marines Light Infantry. He was classified as underage (for Foreign Service), until 15 Oct 1916 (18 years old) and was at Deal, Kent.


On 28 Feb 1917 he transferred to Chatham, Kent prior to embarking for France on 21 Aug 1917. He joined the Royal Marine Battalion in the 63rd Royal Naval Division. He was killed in action on 2 Sep 1918 at Drocourt-Queant, part of the 2nd Battle of Arras. His remains were not recovered and he is remembered on the Vis-en-Artois Memorial.

Additional Information

Elder brother John Alexander served in the Bedfordshire Regiment as a Lance Corporal and was invalided out in 1917 and died in 1919.
