William Norman Cameron Wells was born in 1899 in Boxmoor, Herts, the eldest son of Charles and Jessie Wells (nee Cameron).
On the 1901 Census, the family were living at 58 Oxberry Avenue, Fulham, London, where his father was working as a Butler. By 1911, although still in Fulham, they had moved to 11 Rostrevor Road, Fulham, with his father remaining in employment as a Butler.
His parents later lived at 31 Richmond Gardens, Shepherds Bush, London.
Wartime Service
William enlisted in Hammersmith and served as a Rifleman with the 5th (City of London) Battalion (London Rifle Brigade) of the London Regiment.
He was killed in action in France.
Additional Information
His father, Mr C W Wells, 31 Richmond Gardens, Shepherd's Bush, W12, ordered his headstone inscription: "AT REST", he received a war gratuity of £6 and his pay owing of £6 19s 1s.
His name is also commemorated on a family grave at Heath Lane Cemetery, Hemel Hempstead, Herts.
