Stanley Harold Darvill was born in Hunton Bridge, nr Langleybury, Herts on 7 November 1892, the son of Frederick and Emma Darvill, and baptised on 1 January 1893 at Langleybury.


On the 1901 Census the family were living at North Grove Cottage, Langleybury, where his father was working as a carpenter. 


He married Edith May Turner in the summer of 1915 and their daughter Frances May Darvill was born on 12 September 1916 and they were living at Kings Langley at the time of enlistment. His widow later gave her address as King's Head, Hunton Bridge, Herts on pension records. 

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford and served with the Army Service Corps (2nd Divisional Train) as Corporal. 


Stanley was accidentally killed [circumstances unknown] on 24 January 1917 whilst on active service and is buried in Varennes Military Cemetery, France. 

Additional Information

A war gratuity of £8 10s and pay owing of £24 19s 2s was divided between his widow Edith and their daughter Frances. His widow also received a pension of £1 a week for herself and Frances.


His brother Sidney also served with the Army Service Corps and survived the war.
