Frank Richard Bull (or Richard Frank Bull as he was registered and baptised) was born in 1876 in Chigwell, Epping, Essex, the son of Joseph and Ellen Bull (nee Wenham), and was baptised on 13 February 1876 at All Saints Church, Chigwell Row, Essex. He was one of seven children.
On the 1881 Census the family were living at 22 Lander Road, Stockwell, Lambeth, London, where his father was working as a coachman.
By the 1901 Census his parents and four siblings were living in Lambeth. Surrey but Frank was not with them. His parents later lived at 22 Bygrave Road, Mitcham, Surrey and Walpole Road, Merton, Surrey. His brother, Robert William Bull, later lived at Garden Road Stores. Abbots Langley, Herts.
Wartime Service
He served with the Mercantile Marine Reserve as a Chief Steward, service no. 698214.
Frank was accidentally drowned on 4 May 1918 whilst serving on the S S Orotava. He has no known grave and his name is commemorated on the Plymouth Naval Memorial.
Additional Information
A pension card exists giving his father as a dependant, but gives no detail of any amount paid. His address was recorded as 5 Walpole Road, Merton, Surrey. His father (a retired coachman) obtained probate of his son's estate on 17 January in London with effects of £126 7s.
