Pre War
Reginald Puddephat was born in Abbots Langley, Hertfordshire in 1898 the son and only child of Joseph and Hannah Puddephat, and was baptised on 4 February 1898 at Abbots Langley.
On the 1901 Census the family were living at Asylum Terrace, Abbots Langley and his father was working as an assistant in the Asylum. His mother died in early 1902 and his father remarried later the same year to Sarah Ann Kennett.
By 1911 they had moved to 1 Beddington Terrace, Mitcham Road, Croydon, Surrey and his father had become a coffee shop keeper. Reginald was then a 13 year old schoolboy.
Wartime Service
He was living in West Croydon, Surrey when he enlisted in Croydon and joined the Middlesex Regiment, serving with the 16th Battalion in France from 17 November 1915.
Reginald was killed in action in France on 1 July 1916, aged 18, the first day of the Battle of the Somme, and is buried in Beaumont-Hamel British Cemetery, France.

the son of Joseph Puddephat.
Additional Information
His father received a war gratuity of £4 and pay owing of £1 7s 4d. Pension cards exist with his mother as dependant and were altered in favour of his father when his mother died, however no pension amount has been recorded. His father's address was later changed to 58 Meadow Walk, Ewell, Surrey.
