Biography

John Chapple was recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour from November 1914 onwards throughout the War. He was recorded throughout the four years of the Great War serving with the Royal Bucks Hussars. It is not known his connection with Abbots Langley, however somebody was responsible for providing this information for inclusion in the Roll of Honour.

His Medal Roll Record showed that he served with the Bucks Hussars, the Bucks Yeomanry, and the Corps of Hussars, and that he was sent to Egypt on 21st April 1915, and was demobilised on 15th March 1919.

John was recorded in the Absent Voter Record of Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919, serving as a Private with the 5th Reserve Regiment’s No 1 Cavalry Cadet School at Netheravon. His address was given as 31 Breakspeare Road, Abbots Langley, and this was the only connection with the village that has been identified.

John Chapple survived the War.
