Biography

Samuel Davies was listed in the Asylum Roll of Honour published in the Hertfordshire Advertiser on 17th October 1914. Samuel’s Medal Roll notes that he held the rank of Private and served with the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC). Many men from the Asylum served with the Royal Army Medical Corps.

It has not been possible to trace Samuel’s family details, where and when he was born, and how he arrived at Abbots Langley. Many of the Asylum Attendants came from far and wide, and it is likely that Samuel Davies had no connection with Abbots Langley until he was employed at the Asylum, sometime before the outbreak of War in August 1914.

The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine recorded that on 26th May 1918 a daughter was born to Samuel and Annie Lavinia Davies, and the next month he was recorded in the Parish Magazine Roll of Honour for the first time, and was shown serving with the RAMC. So it is assumed that by that time the family were part of the local community.

Samuel was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Autumn 1918, Spring 1919 and Autumn 1919, serving as a Private with the Royal Army Medical Corps, and his address was given at 33 Adrian Road, Abbots Langley.

Samuel Davies survived the War.
