Biography

William Hillier was born on 15th April 1901 at Abbots Langley. He was one of eight children (four sons and four daughters) born to George and Kate Hillier. His brother Edwin also served in the Great War. At the time of the 1901 and 1911 Census the family lived at Mansion House Farm Cottages at Abbots Langley. George worked as a Farm Labourer.

William was first recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in July 1918 serving with the Royal Marine Light Infantry (RMLI), and continued to be recorded through to the end of the War. He had enlisted with the RMLI in May 1918, and served with the Chatham Division.

William Hillier survived the War, as did his brother Edwin.
