Biography

Charles Jaques was born in the summer of 1894 at St Pancras in London. He was the first child born to Charles (senior) and Eleanor Jaques. At the time of the 1901 and 1911 Census the family lived at 9 Mornington Crescent, St Pancras in the house of Charles’ grand-father. Charles (senior) worked as a Letterpress Printer. In 1911 Charles was the eldest of six children, two sons and four daughters, in the family.

From his Medal Roll Card Charles (junior) was sent to France on 11th March 1915 but he was recorded for the first time in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in July 1916, serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC). At that point it is not known Charles’ association with Abbots Langley. He continued to be recorded in the Roll of Honour through to the end of the War, and was recorded in the Absent Voter Records for Autumn 1918, Spring 1919 and Autumn 1919.

In all three Absent Voter Records Charles was recorded serving with the 85th Field Ambulance, RAMC, and living at Abbots Road, Abbots Langley. Charles’ Medal Roll Card indicated that he was discharged on 22nd March 1919.

Charles Jaques survived the War.
