Biography

George Langston was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley in Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919. He was initially identified from the Absent Voter Records and was not recorded elsewhere in the Abbots Langley Parish records. In the Absent Voter Records George was listed serving with the Royal Garrison Artillery and his address was given at 7 Shaffords Cottages, Nash Mills, Abbots Langley.

George Langston was born on 9th May 1885 at Leverstock Green. He was the eldest of seven sons born to George and Elizabeth Langston. In the1891 Census the family lived at Bennetts End, Hemel Hempstead, where George worked as a Farm Labourer. By the time of the 1901 Census George had died and Elizabeth was listed as the Head of the Household, and the family had moved to Shaffords Cottages at Nash Mills. In 1901 George was employed at a Paper Factory, presumably John Dickinson’s. George continued to work at the Paper Factory and in 1911 was employed as a Calendar Hand.

It is not known when George enlisted with the Royal Garrison Artillery, however he survived the War, and returned to the family home at 7 Shaffords Cottages.
