Biography

Aubrey Pudden was born on 22nd August 1898 at Hornsey. He was one of three children (two sons and a daughter) born to George and Mary Pudden. In the 1901 Census the family was recorded living at 54 Marlin Square, Abbots Langley. George was employed as a School-master. By the time of the 1911 Census the family lived at “Rosebank”, Abbots Road, Abbots Langley. The Census confirmed that George was employed by the St Pancras Board of Governors as a School-master, at the St Pancras School in Asylum Road.

Aubrey was first recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in March 1917, where he was listed serving with the London Rifle Brigade. In the December 1917 edition the Parish Magazine reported that Aubrey had been wounded. He recovered and served for the remainder of the War with the 5th (City of London) Battalion, which was also known as the London Rifle Brigade.

Aubrey was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Autumn 1918, Spring 1919 and Autumn 1919. These records confirmed that Aubrey served with the 5th (City of London) Battalion, and gave his address at Abbots Road, Abbots Langley.

Aubrey Pudden survived the War, as did his brother Hedley.
