Biography

Arthur Rumsey was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley in Spring 1919. He was initially identified from the Absent Voter Records and was not recorded elsewhere in the Abbots Langley Parish records. In the Absent Voter Records Arthur was listed serving with the Royal Engineers and his address was given at Pimlico, Abbots Langley.

Arthur was born in the winter of 1886 at Pimlico, Abbots Langley and was baptised at Leverstock Green on 25th April. He was one of five children born to John and Jane Rumsey. In each of the Census from 1881 to 1911 the family was listed living at Pimlico, Abbots Langley. In 1881 and 1891 John Rumsey was recorded working as an Agricultural Labourer. In 1901 and 1911 John was employed by the County Council as a Road-man. Arthur worked as an Agricultural Labourer in 1901 and by 1911 was listed working as a Horseman on a Farm.

It is not known when Arthur enlisted however his Medal Roll indicated that he disembarked in France on 3rd October 1915. He served as a Driver with the Royal Engineers throughout the War and was demobilised on 20th February 1919.

Arthur Rumsey survived the War.
