Biography

William Smith was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley in Spring 1919. He was initially identified from the Absent Voter Records and was not recorded elsewhere in the Abbots Langley Parish records. In the Absent Voter Records William was listed serving with the Middlesex Regiment and his address was given at Pimlico, Abbots Langley.

William was born in 1876 at Bushey. He was one of nine children born to James and Lydia Smith. At the time of the 1881 Census the family was registered living at Grove Road, Bushey where James worked as a Gardener. By 1891 the family lived at Porridge Pot Hill, Bedmond, and James’ occupation continued to be listed as a Gardener. At this time William worked as a Farm Labourer. By 1901 William had moved from the family home, and little more has been identified about his family or military life, until he returned to Pimlico near Bedmond in 1919.

William Smith survived the War.
