Biography

Frank Thatcher was born on 3rd March 1890 at Abbots Langley. He was one of four children (three sons and one daughter) born to Frank (senior) and Eliza Burton. Frank’s two brothers, Charles and Edward also served in the Great War. At the time of the 1901 Census the family lived at 8 Adrian Road. Frank (senior) worked as a House Painter and Paper Hanger. The family remained at this address and was recorded there in the 1911 Census, where Frank (junior) was listed working as a Gas Fitter. Frank married Mabel Malsey in the summer of 1913.

The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour first recorded Frank in June 1915 serving with the Motor Transport Army Service Corps (MTASC). His Medal Roll noted that he was sent to France on 31st August 1915 and was recorded with the MTASC through to the end of the War. The Parish Magazine noted that two sons were born to Frank and Mabel, in August 1916 and on 1st December 1918.

Frank was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley of Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919. In the Spring 1919 Record he was recorded serving with the 261st. He gave his address at Old Spa Villas, Abbots Langley.

Frank Thatcher survived the War, as did his brothers Charles and Edward.
