Biography

Charles Young was born in the winter of 1893 at Abbots Langley. He was one of seven children (three sons and four daughters) born to George and Charlotte Young. His brother George (junior) also served in the Great War. The family had lived at Breakspear Road, Abbots Langley since 1881. George worked as a Labourer and Carter.

At the time of the 1911 Census the family was living at 57 Breakspear Road, and by this time Charles worked as a Gardener Domestic.

Charles was recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour for the first time in August 1915 where he was listed serving with the 19th Battalion of the London Regiment. He was listed with this unit for the remainder of the War.

On 15th April 1916 the Hertfordshire Advertiser reported that Charles Young had been wounded, however this was not recorded in the Parish Magazine.

Charles Young survived the War as did his brother George.
