Biography

Bernard Wilson was listed in the Absent Voter Records for Abbots Langley in Autumn 1918 and Spring 1919. He was initially identified from the Absent Voter Records and was not recorded elsewhere in the Abbots Langley Parish records. In the Absent Voter Records Bernard was listed serving with the Army Service Corps and his address was given at Leverstock Green.

Bernard was born in 1889 at Leverstock Green. In the 1891 Census he was recorded living with his mother, Jane, and sister with his grand-parents, Daniel and Sarah Wilson. It is not known what happened to Bernard’s father, however when he was baptised on 10th November 1889 only his mother was listed in the records. In 1891 the family lived at High Street Green, Hemel Hempstead. Daniel worked as a Carter, and Jane worked sewing Straw Hats. By 1901 the family still lived at High Street Green. Jane was listed as the Housekeeper, whilst Daniel, who was 66 by this time was employed as a Carter by an Iron Foundry.

Bernard married Bertha Stock in the spring of 1910, and in the 1911 Census they were recorded living at 48 York Road, Watford. A son, Bernard (junior) was born in 1910, and Bernard (senior) worked as a Groundsman.

It is not known when Bernard (senior) enlisted, however in the Abbots Langley Absent Voter Records his address was given at Leverstock Green.

Bernard Wilson survived the War.
