Biography

John Weatherly was born in the winter of 1881 at Ruislip. He was one of six children (four sons and two daughters) born to Edward and Elizabeth Weatherly. At the time of the 1891 Census the family lived at Primrose Hill, Ruislip, where Edward worked as a Hay Binder. By 1901 the family had moved to King’s End, Ruislip, and at that time John was listed working as a Farm Labourer.

By the time of the 1911 Census John had moved from the family home, and five years previously had married. The couple had a son (1907) and a daughter (1910) and in 1911 lived at Langley Lodge Gardens, Kings Langley, where John was employed as a Gardener Domestic.

John was recorded for the first time in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour in November 1914, serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps (RAMC). From January 1918 he was not recorded in the Abbots Langley Roll of Honour, and it is not known why this happened. It is also not known why he was connected to Abbots Langley, or why he appeared in the Roll of Honour.

John Weatherly survived the War.
