Biography

James Geary was recorded in the Leavesden Roll of Honour which was compiled at the end of the Great War. However, no other information has been found regarding this man’s service record.

James Geary was born in Watford (Rural District Council area) on 1st December 1888 according to a family record, and the Canadian Find a Grave database noted that he was baptised at Chipperfield on 10th February 1889. He was one of six children born to James and Kate. At the time of the 1891 Census the family lived at New hall Farm, Bucks Hill, St Pauls, Chipperfield, and James (senior) was recorded working as a Farmer.

By the time of the 1901 Census, the family had moved to live at 17 Marlin Square, Abbots Langley. James (senior) was employed as an Assistant Road Surveyor. James (senior) died in November 1906, and it is possible that James’ mother was living at “Summerhill”, Garston at the time of the 1991 Census. The family records registered with the Ancestry web-site indicated that James emigrated to Canada from Bristol on 3rd April 1912, and his death was recorded at Swan River, Manitoba on 29th December 1926.

James is recorded on the Leavesden Roll of Honour which is displayed in All Saints Church, which indicated that he served during the Great War. However no records have been found to confirm that he served with either the British or Canadian forces during the War.

James Geary survived the War.
