Biography

Edwin Hillier was born on 13th March 1898 at Abbots Langley. He was one of eight children (four sons and four daughters) born to George and Kate Hillier. His brother William also served in the Great War. At the time of the 1901 and 1911 Census the family lived at Mansion House Farm Cottages at Abbots Langley. George worked as a Farm Labourer.

The Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour listed Edwin for the first time in June 1915 serving with the Army Service Corps (ASC). He was recorded serving with the ASC each month until August 1915, but was not recorded after September 1915. No explanation for this has been identified, and it is presumed that Edwin survived the War, as did his brother William.
