Biography

George Young was born in the spring of 1885 at Abbots Langley. He was one of seven children (three sons and four daughters) born to George (senior) and Charlotte Young. His brother Charles also served in the Great War. The family had lived at Breakspeare Road, Abbots Langley since 1881. George (senior) worked as a Labourer and Carter.

At the time of the 1911 Census the family lived at 57 Breakspeare Road, but by this time George (junior) had left the family home.

George was recorded in the Abbots Langley Parish Magazine Roll of Honour for the first time in August 1915 where he was listed serving with the Army Service Corps. He was listed with this unit until December 1918 when he had transferred to the Motor Transport Section of the Army Service Corps.

George Young survived the War as did his brother Charles.
