Patrick Grogan was born in 1885, in Co. Clare, Ireland, son of Paul and Maria Grogan of Co. Clare, Ireland.


The 1901 Census of Ireland records Patrick living in Core, Feakle, Clare, Ireland, with his parents, five brothers and 4 sisters. 


He married Edith Mary Fulks, the daughter of James and Dorcas Fulks from Wigginton, Herts, in Pool, Dorset, on 28th September 1913. They had one son Percy Raymond Grogan in December 1914.


At the time of Patrick's enlistment he was aged 30, living in Fox Road, Wigginton, Herts with wife Edith and son Percy and employed as a Chauffeur.

Wartime Service

Patrick enlisted on 18th March 1915, and posted to the 9th Reserve Battery, 2nd Reserve Brigade, Royal Field Artillery with the Service No. 95034. His Service Record indicates he Embarked at Southampton on 30th August 1915, Disembarking at Le Havre, France on 31st August 1915. 


He was admitted to hospital with bronchitis on 16th January 1916, returning to the UK aboard HMHS Jan Breydel on 31st January 1916, spending some time in hospital and at the Royal Field Artillery Depot.


He was discharged at Woolwich on 9th January 1918 aged 33, with Chronic Bronchitis, result of active service. Under Kings Regulations "Physically unfit 392 (XVI) K. R." 


He received his Silver War Badge No. 315166 on 17th January 1918.  


Patrick died on 18th June 1918, he is buried in the Luton Church Burial grounds, Luton, Bedfordshire.

Additional Information

The value of his effects were £14, which went to his widow Edith. Edith received a State Pension of 25s-5d per week. His widow Edith, son Percy and her parents James and Dorcas Fulks all emigrated to Canada. Edith and Percy in May 1920 aboard the S. S. Grampian, bound for Montreal, Canada. Edith's brother Private 45650 Robert Fulks was Killed in Action on 29th September 1917.
