Son of Jane (nee OXFORD) ALDOUS of Watford and the late Samuel ALDOUS.
His parents’ marriage is proving elusive. Jane died 1938 in Watford aged 66, and was buried 20 January in Vicarage Road Cemetery, Watford.
Alfred was born 1890 in Chelmsford or Chingford, Essex [not Willesden].
On the 1891 Census, aged 10 months he lived in Widford, Essex, with his parents and two siblings. On the 1901 Census, aged 10 he lived in Mill Hill, with his parents and four siblings. On the 1911 Census, he is proving elusive.
Wartime Service
He originally enlisted in Mill Hill, Middx, 19 November 1907: a brick maker aged 18, 5’7″ tall, C of E. He served at Home from 19 November 1907 to 30 September 1909 during which time he was posted to the 4th Battalion 17 March 1908. He was posted to the 3rd Battalion 1 October 1909 on which date he served in Singapore until 18 December 1910. He served at Home again from 19 December 1910 to 18 November 1914, when he became part of the B.E.F. serving in France. He was entitled to the Victory, British War and 1914-15 Star medals, his qualifying date being 18 January 1915, and was killed in action between 12 and 15 February 1915, his date of death presumed to be 15 February 1915.
