Pre War

Archibald Kenneth Park was the eldest son of Archibald Edward Park and Emily Margaret (nee Grundy) of Stratford on Avon. He was educated at Aldenham School and went directly to Royal Military College, Sandhurst. He gained a commission as 2nd Lieutenant and was later attached to the Gloucester Regiment. In March 1906 he was posted to 10th Gurkha Rifles, where he was Signalling Officer and Quartermaster for the Regiment. Promoted to Lieutenant in April 1907 and Captain in Jan 1911. He was a member of the Junior Army & Navy Club, with favourite pastimes of shooting and Polo in which he played for the regimental team.


He married in 1910 to Effie Flora Stewart, the daughter of John Willcocks, Agent of Burma Railways and had a Daughter Joan Linda Miriam who was born in 1911.

Wartime Service

Captain Park was appointed to 2/2nd King Edwards Own Gurkha Rifles (The Sirmoor Rifles) and it was in France on 9 May 1915.


He was wounded during the Attack on Aubers Ridge. He later died of his wounds the same day and lies in Cabaret-Rouge Cemetery, France

His wife, Effie F. S. Park of Pendeen, Stratford-on-Avon, ordered his headstone inscription: "DULCE ET DECORUM EST PRO PATRIA MORI".
