Pre War

Son of Frederick James and Eliza (nee WARD) COOK of Watford.

His parents married 2 June 1895 at St Mary the Virgin, Eaton Bray, Beds.  Eliza died 1941 in Watford aged 70, and was buried 26 April in North Watford Cemetery; Frederick died 1953 in the St Alban’s, Herts, district aged 78.

Charles was born 5 July 1898 in Watford, and attended first Callow Land Infants’ School, Watford; then Callowland Board School from 10 January 1905 to 7 July 1912.  He resided in Watford.

On the 1901 Census, aged 2 he lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.  On the 1911 Census, a milliner’s errand boy aged 12, he still lived in Watford, with his parents and one sibling.

Wartime Service

He enlisted in Watford; was entitled to the Victory and British War medals, and was killed in action.  

Additional Information

Unfortunately, Charles’ Service Record appears to be one that did not survive the World War Two bombing.

Has a entry in the National Roll of the Great War.
